The reality of life on a building site is that much of what we need to do, we need to do at a height that is out of reach. Nogging out a midfloor, fixing down trusses and working in stairwells are the types of jobs that have us searching for a safe and stable platform to work on.

For many Trades, whether builder, plumber, electrician, plasterer or painter, the scaffold tower is an essential piece of equipment for working at heights.  The large platform and full-surround guard railing provides safety, comfort and efficiency for longer duration tasks that a ladder cannot offer.  However, unlike a ladder they can be awkward to store and transport, are less mobile and take time to install and dismantle.

So, when Easy Access considered how they could re-invent the scaf tower to increase efficiency and ease of use for Trades, their inhouse design team created the newest product to their range, with those factors in mind.

Now in their 20th year of supplying New Zealand’s widest range of ladders, platforms, edge protection and scaffold towers, Easy Access continues the legacy of uncompromising emphasis on quality, safety and compliance.  This means that a new tower needed to be robust to withstand sustained hard use in harsh environments.  So the new 225Kg-rated, NZ-made MOBI towers have been made from high tensile aluminium and are supported by substantial 200mm casters, for maximum durability and mobility.  The casters are conveniently height adjustable through 350mm.

To add further rigidity to the assembled tower when it is relocated, and to ensure tradies remain compliant onsite, all MOBI towers are sold complete with a plan brace.   According to AS/NZS 1576.1 : 2019, toeboards are also required where an object can fall more than 2 metres from a platform.  Some sites require toeboards to be used on any work platform regardless of height.  So Easy Access have included toeboards as standard with any model having a platform height over 2 metres.  They are also available as an optional extra as required. The higher tower options come complete with outriggers to ensure stability as part of the package. These are also available as optional extras on any tower assembly.

For time-saving installation, aluminium guardrails and ledgers are lightweight, and the snaplock connections allow the unit to be easily assembled. The design has the added benefit of allowing the end frames to be offset enabling assembly on an uneven support surface such as a stairway. For ultimate, no-brainer installation the guardrail/ledgers, angle braces and plan brace are colour coded so there is no chance of confusion.

AS/NZS 1576.1 : 2019 dictates that an angled ladder must be used to access the work platform from within the footprint of the tower.  However, traditional clip-on ladders are often left off to save space in vehicles and reduce assembly time onsite. In recent times scaffold end frames with a ladder incorporated into the structure have been available in NZ.   So, in order to provide a solution that does not require a separate ladder, the MOBI’s end frames are specifically designed to be used as a ladder.

Serrated transoms spaced 300mm apart, across the full width of each frame allow the assembled tower to be climbed safely and comfortably.   Some site regulations may specifically require a clip-on sloping ladder. These are also available as an optional extra.

The MOBI mobile scaffold is available in single width (0.8m) or double width (1.4m). At a length of 2m, the lightweight aluminum components are easily transported in a van, ute or trailer.

Easy Access is a Kiwi manufacturer and supplier to trade stores, they can assure that every component of the MOBI tower is available individually, and bridging platforms are also available for long-run access spanning up to 10m.

Easy Access really have re-invented the mobile scaffold tower so that Kiwi Tradies can have peace-of-mind onsite compliance, ease of transportation and installation, and a robust tower that will withstand hard use for many years.
